Winter Blue

2022-2023

Cyanotype

Lesi, based in London, explores the relationship between humans, nature, and sunlight through cyanotype photography. Originating from Southern China, where sunlight differs drastically, Chen's emotional response to London's limited daylight inspires her cyanotype creations. Using this slow-reacting process, she captures shadows of plants and bodies, delving into how humans perceive tactile feedback from nature. Chen's work reflects the shifting intensity of sunlight in winter, manifested in varying shades of cyan.
Through her prints, she prompts contemplation on humanity's connection to nature—are humans simply another form of botanical representation? By intertwining herself and plants in her artwork, Chen invites viewers to ponder our shared reliance on sunlight for growth and energy, fostering visual and emotional connections between humans and nature.
